Planning Your Next Year with Purpose!

A new year is almost upon us, have you done any planning for it yet?  If not, why not?  Research  shows that we get more done, are more productive and achieve our goals at a higher rate when we plan our time.  Not only do we need to plan our days and weeks, but we need to set yearly goals.  Have you set yours?  We only have a month until the end of the year, if you don’t plan, someone will plan your life for you!

So with that in mind, here are some ideas for you to get started.

Start with the year in mind.  What do you want to accomplish in the next year?

  • I am running a half and full marathon, but to get that done I have to start planning now.
  • I am pushing 50 (next October), so I need to think about my diet.  My wife and I have started a diet plan, counting calories and lots of veggies

Your financial well-being, how is it?

  • How much do you want to save?
  • How much do you want to invest?
  • How much do you want to give?
  • You need to plan ahead, budget

Personal Growth?

  • Are you growing as a person?
  • What books are you reading?
  • What websites are you learning from?
  • What can you do to be better than you are today?

These are just a few of the areas you need to start planning for now? There are others:

  •  What if you started off the year with a clear plan and purpose?  How much better would 2014 be than 2013?
  •  Or perhaps you need to continue your growth from this year.

If that is the case, the time is now to get started.  Don’t waste the time around the holidays, use it to plan a better 2014.  Need help?

Today we podcast from the open road.  I am on the way back from dropping off my nephew in Monahans, Texas.  It is a beautiful Sunday evening in West Texas and Todd podcasts while driving home.  We spend a day at the Lawyers office in mediation, this is not the way I recommend spending the day. I learned a bunch about negotiating and human nature, plus we received a settlement.

I graded a ton of papers, I mean a ton of papers!  But I got much done and it was because I started!  Wherever you are, START!  I rediscovered the power of getting started and acting!  The idea of action is the key to getting unstuck.

We are still eating no wheat and am trying to fit all of my physical body healthy through running and it is tough getting it in, so I am trying to run in the morning. I am not discouraged, even though I am behind, already, in my goals.  We did some smoking, meat smoking that is, brisket and chicken, Texas style.  And I finished the latest Vince Flynn novel, Act of Treason, wonderful read.

So sit back and relax or take you iphone and go for a run and listen to me for the next 45 minutes.

New to Purposeful U?  Then make sure you listen to My Story, the first podcast I produced, and head on over to my personal blog, Todd B. Freese and over to the podcast that my wife and I do weekly, Two Teachers in Texas.  Be sure to leave a comment on both blogs and of course here as well.

This week we talk about S.M.A.R.T. goals and some of my goals for the upcoming year and how to get those done.  History is my discipline of choice and we talk about Ben Franklin, a little, and some other history stuff.

Plus we talk about church and my early to rise challenge.  I am trying to accomplish more in the coming year.  How am I going to find time to get it done?  My choice was to use Andy Traub’s Early to Rise Book and try to reset my clock for 30 days by arising at 5 am.  Can you do it?  I am trying and have had pretty good results: two podcasts, a few thousand words written and a book read.  Pretty effective so far, listen to see how I have done it. I am using Srivener to write my book, you can too.

Don’t know who I am?  Listen to My Story to see where I came from and where I get some of my ideas.

Don’t forget to visit my blog about life as a teacher at Todd B. Freese and my podcast with my wife at Two Teachers in Texas.

This week on Purposefulu:

We are heading in a new direction here at Purposefulu.  A little shorter length and fewer segments.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!  We are hosting Thanksgiving again this year and Todd is up early to Smoke a turkey, bake a pie and make homemade rolls.

Texas Roadhouse is on the agenda because they are contributing to our Wounded Vets who had a terrible accident the other day.

Don’t forget to go to Todd B. Freese to read Todd’s blog about being a teacher.

Todd goes to a workshop about the Bill of Rights and religion and encourages you to make sure you take time to sharpen your saw by attending events that help you become better at whatever you do.

Todd encourages you to plan your year next year by using S.M.A.R.T. goals and by all means start now.  By starting now you will get a jump on next year.  And perhaps we need to look in the mirror first before we complain about others.  Start a new you, you don’t have to do the same thing, checkout this podcast for help.

And Todd makes a list of the things he is thankful for, you should do it too, it is great.

In the church section Todd talks about taking more personal responsibility in the Radical experiment.  Sometimes the biggest problem is you!  Messiah’s Cozy Coffee House wasn’t a huge hit, but it was fun nonetheless. If you missed it, you missed a hoot as we say in Texas.  Christmas dinner theater is next.

Todd wants to see four movies and is reading a good book:

Book by Vince Flynn – Memorial Day.
